To claim your website on Pinterest, you have a couple of different options - and they’re all super easy. Follow these simple steps:

Claim Your Website on Pinterest By Adding An HTML Tag

This is the first and probably the easiest way to claim your website on Pinterest. It’s fast and simple, and while it does involve some code, don’t let that intimidate you. Here are six steps to making it happen:

#1 Log Into Pinterest

Make sure that you have a business account with Pinterest before doing this because only a business account can claim your website on Pinterest. If you’re just starting out with promoting your business on Pinterest, check out the reasons why a business account is so much more effective than a personal account on Pinterest.

#2 Open Settings and Click ‘Claim’

Navigate to the settings bar and click the ‘claim’ button. A window should pop up for you to fill in your information. At this point, you should:

#3 Enter Your Website URL

Put your website address into the section prompting you for it and click ‘Confirm’. Make sure to keep this tab up, because you’ll need it later.

#4 Copy The Code

Pinterest will generate a piece of code that is unique to you that will enable you to claim your website. This is called an HTML tag, and it’s basically a piece of data that Pinterest will ‘read’ to trace back to your account. Click the ‘copy’ button to copy this to your clipboard.

#5 Paste to Your Website HTML

Head to the back end of your website and paste the code - called a tag - into the head section of your index.html file. The exact instructions for this will vary depending on your website host, but it is very simple. We’ll walk you through the different steps of how to add an HTML tag to claim your website on Pinterest for a few popular website hosts below.

#6 Click ‘Finish’ on Pinterest

Once you’ve added the code, navigate back to the Pinterest page, and click ‘Finish’. Pinterest will read the data on your website in order to find the individualized tag, and it will recognize your claim.

See, that was pretty easy, right?

How To Add An HTML Tag To Claim Your Website

This is simply step #5 in more detail to help you claim your website on Pinterest for different website hosts. Let’s take a look.

Add Pinterest HTML Tag to a Squarespace Website

So at this point, you’ve copied the code from Pinterest. What next?

First, head to the back-end of your website and open ‘Settings’. Navigate through ‘Advanced’ to the option that reads ‘Code Injection’.

This will open up a variety of options to add code to different places. Paste the code tag into the ‘Header’ section and be sure to confirm it by clicking ‘Save’.

And you’re done! Head back to Pinterest to claim your website.

Add Pinterest HTML Tag to a WordPress Website

To claim your website on Pinterest using a WordPress site, copy the Pinterest HTML tag, and then open WordPress.

Click on ‘Tools’ and then on ‘Marketing’, and then click on ‘Traffic’ to open the right section.

At this point, scroll to find the ‘Site Verification Services’ section. There will be different fields to add tags for different sites. Paste your HTML tag code into the section marked ‘Pinterest’.

Click ‘Save Settings’ and then go back to Pinterest to complete step #6!

Add Pinterest HTML Tag to a Wix Website

Open your dashboard on Wix and click on ‘SEO Tools’. Head to ‘Verification’.

Click on ‘Pinterest’ to open the correct field, and paste your HTML tag in the prompt box. Then click ‘Save’.

Then you’re ready to finish step #6 and claim your website on Pinterest!

Add Pinterest HTML Tag to a Blogger Website

To claim your website on Pinterest using a Blogger hosted site, follow steps 1-4 above, and then open the back-end of your Blogger site.

Click on ‘Template’ in the sidebar. Then, click on the ‘Edit HTML’ button at the bottom of the page.

This will open up a window of code. All you have to do is paste the code you’ve copied from Pinterest on the line that begins ‘<head>’. This will be one of the first lines of code, so you won’t have to go digging.

Click ‘Save’ and complete step #6. You’re good to go!

Why Is It Important To Claim Your Website On Pinterest?

It’s important to claim your website on Pinterest for a couple of reasons. Claiming your website gives you access to priceless analytics: this will tell you which Pins of yours do well, which are generating traffic back to your website, and which images from your website are getting made into Pins. All of this will help you as you decide what kind of content to create in the future and what to emphasize on Pinterest.

Another reason why it is important to claim your website on Pinterest is that after you have done so, your profile picture and a link back to your account will show up on every post that you make. This makes it easy for people who discover one of your Pins to trace it back to you and discover more of your work.

The ‘Follow’ button also shows up under your posts, which makes it even easier to build your audience and get more exposure.

Finally, when you claim your website on Pinterest, you gain more credibility. You become verified with a blue tick mark, which shows that you are a confirmed creator or merchant. This encourages people to click through to your website and to trust your expertise.
